Family mediation is provided free of charge and is available to all families with youth and children. Family mediation is a family meeting in your home in which two trained mediators help all family members at the meeting talk about a family problem involving the youth or children in the family.

Each person will have an opportunity to say how they and others haven been affected by this family problem.

How will mediation help me and my family?

Family mediation will help you and your family express your feelings about a family problem involving the youth or children in the family.

Family mediation will assist all family members to agree on positive steps toward solving the problem.

Is this like counseling?

There are important differences between counseling and mediation. In mediation, after you have decided what issues are most important to talk about, YOU come up with ideas on how you want to solve them, guided by the volunteer mediators. Also, mediation generally requires only one or two sessions.

What happens when we agree on a way to handle a family problem?

If you wish, the mediators will assist you to write your agreement down so that all family members will have a copy of the agreement.
